Project WISE - Women in Political Life for a Successful Europe
WOMEN IN POLITICS
On 6 - 7 April, 2009, in hotel Sheraton, Sofia, the Association for European Partnership in collaboration with the Representation of the
European Commission in Bulgaria organized a two-day international conference "Women in Politics" in the implementation of the project "Women in Political Life for a Successful Europe"
under "Europe for Citizens" Programme of the EC.
Participants in the conference were Mrs. Margot Wallstrom, Vice President of the European Commission and Institutional Relations and
Communication Strategy Commissioner, and Mrs. Gergana Passy, Minister of European Affairs.
At the forum the European campaign "50/50" for equal participation of women in politics was launched and promoted. The main discussion
points at the conference were the opportunities for balanced representation of women in the political, social and economic life, the main bottlenecks and challenges they are facing,
the art to balance family obligations with the business, social and political engagements and other important questions, concerning the active participation of women in politics and
in the decision-making process in general.
The participants in the conference shared opinions, ideas and good practices. At the end of the forum all of them expressed their deep conviction that the wider representation of women in politics will make United Europe a more successful project.
